Face it, we all went through it. Some of us are still in it; some of us move passed it. After all, how could we not fall victim to cater to “numbero uno” (yourself). I don’t want to sound cynical but I would love to call it as I see it. The New York musical art scene is cut throat.
Thank the Great Spirit for Open-Mics who cater to the up and coming musician, spoken word artist and comedian. The power of the Open-Mic is like the power of the sun that is just waiting to be harnessed. Following that sentence I would like to say that my senses, my creativity and soul have solar power panels. I absorb what Mic-Club radiates.
Some of us now realize that we can not do this by ourselves and that we need each other to accomplish miracles. I know a few out there who go to open mics, hand out flyers or self plugs, get on stage and play and then finally F*&%k off and leave. Alright let me get this straight. You get on stage expecting people to listen to your material but are not willing to listen and support others? What planet are you on? Make a conscious effort people. I know some of you use the excuse that you have to wake up and “Work” the next morning but really, the way I see it is, you made the effort to sign up and wait for your turn; why not make the effort to support? Don’t you think others have to work as well? Get over your ego cocoon and wake up. Otherwise, you are just waiting your time in your path to self evolution. Join us. You won’t regret it.
That said, a new talent, emotionally naked as can be, will debut tonight at Mic-Club. I seen him grow musically sharing with us his music with love and sincerity while hanging out and listening to others perform. It just shows you what type of personality this kat is. Ladies and Gents; come and listen to an intelligent, authentic and majestically bohemian singer/songwriter, Jonathan Ibisch. This man inspires you to relax, ponder and have a pint of Guinness. The Folk Scene better brace itself for this rising talent.
